The Sioux-Hudson Literacy Council (SHLC) is a non-profit Literacy and Basic Skills organization funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education & Skills Development (MAESD). We are a community-based, client-centred group that operates the Sioux Lookout Learning Centre and Good Learning Anywhere eChannel distance delivery program. We have been serving learners in this region since 1993.
Our office is located in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada and we are run by a volunteer board of directors. Our staff and volunteers are here to support and motivate you as you become better at reading, writing, using computers and many other skills. Our team members are warm and welcoming to both Native and Non-native learners.
Literacy and Basic Skills
The SHLC provides the Literacy and Basic Skills program (LBS) to people in the Sioux Lookout/Hudson region. Our staff and volunteer tutors work with committed adults to achieve their personal goals whether it be for improved opportunity in the workplace, further education and training or increased personal independence.
We operate one Learning Centre, located in Sioux Lookout. We provide a range of educational services to the adults in the region.
Good Learning Anywhere
The SHLC also operates the Good Learning Anywhere e-Channel initiative. Good Learning Anywhere provides free online distance learning opportunities for adult learners in Ontario to assist them in upgrading their reading, writing, math, computer and other Essential Skills.
